Philadelphia Mint Employee "Team Award"

"TEAM AWARD" GIVEN TO ALL PHILADELPHIA MINT
EMPLOYEES BY MINT DIRECTOR EDMUND C. MOY

THE 2007-P GEORGE WASHINGTON DOLLAR
THAT ACCOMPANIED THE "TEAM AWARD" LETTER

On February 20, 2007, Director of the Mint Edmund C. Moy gave a "Team Award" to all of the Philadelphia Mint employees. The award consisted of a personally signed letter and a 2007-P George Washington Dollar.

The letter speaks for itself: "On February 15, 2007, the United States Mint introduced the Presidential $1 Coin Program to the American People. In recognition of the team effort by United States Mint employees in the production of the first Presidential $1 Coin, I am pleased to present you with an honorary team award, featuring a George Washington Presidential $1 Coin that honors the first president of the United States. This coin is an exceptionally fine example of the dedication and skill of United States Mint employees in producing beautiful, historic and distincive American coins. Thank you for all your efforts and dedication."

As far as I can determine there are approximately 650 employees at the Philadelphia Mint that would have received one of these. The letter is on a normal 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper. (In the photo of the letter, above left, the blank bottom of the page has been cropped to save space). The letter head and Treasury logo are printed in green ink, much like the green ink on our currency. The rest of the letter is black ink as is Mr. Moy's signature. The dollar is no different than the one's released into circulation.

In 2000, the Denver Mint also recognized their employees with an "Employee Appreciation Sacagawea Dollar".
